As part of the related programs and initiatives to the Family Protection Policy Against Abuse which was issued by the Cabinet late 2019, and in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Regional Office in the UAE, the Ministry of Community Development is implementing a series of awareness workshops entitled “Protection is My Priority” to educate families about ways of prevention against domestic violence. The workshops promote the culture of respect among family members since they represent the cornerstone of any society, enhance the government’s attention to the family members as they are on its top priority agenda and provide them with a safe environment within a healthy community.

Eman Hareb, Director of Social Protection Department at the Ministry of Community Development, stated that these awareness workshops target adults, young people, women, men and people of determination. The workshops highlight protection for these categories against abuse and all of forms of violence by raising awareness in society about domestic violence and its harmful effects, introducing forming family members of their rights and duties as well as provided services in case any kind of domestic violence.
“The workshops continue until the end of the third quarter of this year, with the participation of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) mental health professionals, focusing on educating the community about domestic violence and its effects.
The workshops address a number of key topics such as: domestic violence concepts, types of domestic violence, the motives of domestic violence, domestic violence phases, psychological, social and economic impacts as a result of domestic violence, ways to reduce such violence.
It is noted that Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Regional Office in the UAE has been founded in in 1992 to embody its presence in the Gulf Region for nearly 30 years. This global movement includes more than 65,000 across the world and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The joint cooperation between the Ministry of Community Development and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) contributes to raising awareness among beneficiaries, both at community level and specialists in dealing with domestic violence or any kind of abuse, thereby creating a stable environment and family security for all family members and throughout the society.
